“Spanish Evenings” Festival was created by conductor Alexis Soriano in 1998 with the mision of presenting mostly Spanish (although also Hispanic-American) Music or interpreters.
The programing criteria is based on quality, plurality, young soloists and composers, investigation and restorement of “lost” or unkwown Spanish repertoire and independence. The Festival takes place in historic halls in Saint Petersburg, such as Philharmonia big and chamber halls, Kapella, Hermitage Theater, Dom kompozitorov, Conservatory main hall, among others. It has presented around 15 orchestra world prèmieres of authors like, Jesús Rueda, Jesús Torres, Jose María Sánchez Verdú, Ramón Lazkano, Joseba Torre, Pilar Jurado, Miguel Franco, Eduardo Rincón, Sergio Blardony, José Evangelista, Jordi Cervelló, Amando Blanquer, Manuel Castillo and many other instrumental pieces by Consuelo Díez, Teresa Catalán, Carlos Cruz de Castro, Jordi Cervelló, Agustín Castilla Ávila, Sanchez Verdú.
Among the soloists we can count some of the most important in Spain, to mention a few; Joaquín Soriano, Rosa Torres Pardo, Luis Fernando Pérez, Pablo Sainz Villegas, Jose Miguel Moreno, Ricardo Gallén, Javier Jáuregui, Iagoba Fanlo, Elena Gragera, Ignacio Rodes, Antón Cardó, Anabel Montesinos, Jose Enrique Bagaría, Leticia Moreno, Jesús Reina etc.
The lyric repertoire has also been present, with the following Operas at the Hermitage Theater; “Arbore di Diana” by Martín y Soler, “Glaura y Cariolano” by José Lidón, and “La Dulcinea de Don Quijote” by Agustín Castilla-Ávila.
